About me

  • Name: Sophie Berg Gertsen
  • Programme + Semester: Language and International Studies, English, 1st Semester
  • Running for: Study Board of International and Cross-Cultural Studies, area of representation: Language and International Studies, English (BA)
  • List name: Sophie Berg Gertsen

Like probably many of you, I am new to Aalborg, having just moved here this summer. In 2023, I graduated from high school with an IB diploma, and since then, I have worked odd jobs, learned German, and spent a month volunteering in Costa Rica. Already, I can tell that my choice to study the LISE programme here at AAU was the right choice for me. This programme is really special in how it prepares us students for future careers as change-makers; I want to help uphold this programme's standard so that many students after me can enjoy this education. When I’m not buried in books, you can probably find me sipping a cocktail at El
Mundo, meal-prepping for the week, or biking really slowly to and from uni (I am, unfortunately, too broke and stubborn for an eBike).

I want to help uphold this programme's standard so that many students after me can enjoy this education.

Key issues:

Relevance, relevance, relevance! We are all here because we are interested in the world around us and in influencing change for the better. I will fight to ensure this education stays in touch and up to date with the world that we are studying. This means ensuring sustainability is considered in the curriculum, addressing the use of technology in class (and in tests), but most importantly, ensuring that the voices of all students are heard. I will also do everything in my power to ensure this programme is as accessible as possible; diversity is the key to a successful education, especially in a programme such as LISE.

ensuring that the voices of all students are heard
